About the Workshop
needs of all their learners using hands-on methods.
Stamps in the Classroom training will accomplish all of those things.
About the Workshop
The American Philatelic Society, the world's largest stamp club, is sponsoring Stamps in the Classroom, a workshop that will demonstrate how postage stamps may be incorporated into a curriculum.
Witness the positive impact postage stamps have on children. Stamps engage children, immediately capturing their interest. Topics on stamps are diverse and represent history, geography, culture, health, science, sports, literature, music, the visual arts, and more. One stamp can touch on several of these topics prompting children to explore and discover new information and ideas. These are often the same ideas and information listed in most national content standards.
Time during the workshop will be devoted to learning more about stamps, but also learning how to incorporate stamps into a curriculum. Stamps are low-cost, easy to find and store.
Youth Area
Open every day, a special area has been set aside for youth, fully equipped and staffed by knowledgeable collectors who are there to guide youngsters through the basics of the hobby. Stamps, puzzles, hands-on demonstrations, games, and much more will be available — and its FREE. The APS will also help defer the costs of bus transportation for any youth groups who arrange (in advance) to come to the show. Half priced frames are available for advanced youth who wish to exhibit competitively.
Young Stamp Collectors of America
The YSCA meeting is a special time to have fun with philatelic activities, meet other young collectors, receive stamps, a special First Day Cover, and other prizes. Membership is available at the show. Preregristration is not required and there is no charge.
Dime & Dollar Booths
Several special booths are designed for beginners. No stamp may be sold for more than 10 cents and no cover for more than $1 at these booths. At one booth a bucket of stamps will cost only $5 ($1 for kids age 15 and under).
Addtional Information
The American Philatelic Society has also developed a stamp album of North Carolina stamps that are available as a free download.
We have a youth area at the show, which is a good destination for field trips. The show itself is an education and is free to the public. Visit our website for details.
