Mountain Bouty Farm Internship Opportunity
Do you know a student who just loves farming or gardening? This is an exciting opportunity to get close to nature, learn some new skills and get paid too! Mountain Bounty Farms has four openings in their summer internship program.
General Internship Information:
Internship starts: April 1, 2008 (possibly earlier)
Internship ends: November 15, 2008
Number of Interns needed: 4
Work/Experience Desired: Desire to become a farmer. Curiosity. Appetite for knowledge about small scale farming. Desire and ability to work hard in all weather. Outgoing and personable. Wacky sense of humor a big plus. Must appreciate palindromes.
Each intern will be responsible for a project of their own. For example, one intern will be in charge of carefully monitoring the 8- 10 sweet corn plantings and applying small amounts of bt to the silks (bacillus thuringensis-a bacteria that kills corn earworms) at the proper time. Interns will be directed to relevant reading materials as their interests dictate. Occasionally, the whole farm crew will travel to nearby farms for tours and discussion.
- Housing: Interns will share a common kitchen, bathing, hangout facility, and sleep in their own tents in a shady grove at the edge of the fields.
- Meals: Interns will be responsible for their own meals and have full access to all farm produce.
Details about Internship:
Interns will join our small crew (generally 3-6 people) for all farm activities from greenhouse work to harvest and delivery. We are committed to learning and love to teach. We want to help more people begin farming. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants a serious learning experience at a successful small scale vegetable farm. Interns will work 5 days a week (Monday - Friday ), 7 hours/day. Interns will also be responsible for doing one CSA delivery per week and occasional minor irrigation duties after hours.
If, after exploring our website and reading about the internship, you would like to apply, please email us a letter of interest, resume and 3 work references. All candidates will be required to visit the farm as part of the interview process. Any questions, please contact John Tecklin.
