Scavenger Hunt List

3/4 Mile Hike

Wear comfortable shoes, we will be hiking in off the road, so please pack lightly.

List of things to bring:

  • Light Lunch
  • Drinking Water
  • Paper or Pencil and notepad
  • Sunscreen
  • Water Socks (recommended)
  • Magnifying glass (optional)
  • Camera (optional)
  • Walking stick (optional)
  • Trash Bags

We need a volunteer to bring the following:

We will be coming from Twain Harte if anyone is interested in carpooling, let me know.

We are not limiting attendance, however, please keep in mind that part of the hike will be at an incline, on a narrow rocky path. Most of the path is very nice and level but there is a short section that gets a little steep. I would recommend parents not attempt to bring strollers, unless they can be safely carried. Also, be forewarned that the last time we were at Natural Bridges we had to warn the kids about poison oak. We will be sure to instruct the kids on how to identify it.

We will hike in at a slow pace, to accommodate young children and those of us who are not in great physical shape. I for one, take regular breaks. You are welcome to hike at your own pace. There are several picnic tables along the path and plenty of shade once we reach the river. The water was pretty shallow last year, however, with all the rain we've had this year, the water could be quite a bit deeper. Last year we had a great place for the young ones to play and large marble slabs to sit on.

This would be a nice field trip to invite the grandparents to come along on. If you have grandparents who enjoy a nice walk, remind them to bring their walking stick and give them an invite.

I'll be working on putting together a scavenger hunt for the kids, if anyone would like to help, please drop me an E-mail. I welcome any ideas you may have to make this a fun and adventurous outing.

Plan to stay until the natives get restless, we are probably looking at around 2:00 or 3:00 pm. If anyone is interested in catching a bite to eat in the area, please let me know, we won't be too far from Columbia, I'm willing to check out the local eateries if anyone is interested. If we wrap things up early enough and if there is an interest we could wind up the day in Columbia.
